Description

Necromancers are masters of the undead, and able to summon pets that excel at dealing damage. They gain powerful lifetaps, a wide selection of damage-over-time spells, and some unique utility spells such as feign death.

Stengths/Weaknesses

Pros

  • Excellent damage (Best DoTs and lifetaps)
  • Strong pet (Slightly improved on IxiQuest)
  • Lifetaps and Lich (HP->MP over time) make them fairly self-sufficient
  • Pacify Undead helps with pulling in some zones
  • Darkness (Snare) line stops dungeon runners
  • Short duration mez helps with CC
  • Feign Death allows them to pull and get out of some situations
  • Ability to transfer mana to other casters for long raid encounters.
  • Variety of emergency utility spells such as self evac and rez (via sacrifice)

Cons

  • Pet not as tanky as a Mage
  • Fewer group buffs than most other casters

Grouping

Necromancers pair well with any priest class or other pet classes. While their pets deal good damage, they are not particularly sturdy and may struggle to tank and hold aggro. In a larger group, the necromancer can contribute solid damage, especially on longer encounters. Feign death and some of their utility spells may allow them to fulfill other roles in an pinch.

Raiding

Necros are primarily focused on dealing damage in a raid setting. Multiple dots of the same type will stack on IxiQuest, and the debuff limit is significantly higher than in classic. They have a wide variety of strong DoTs, and lifetaps are almost always effective. Due to the wide availability of manastones and improved mana regen for casters, they are only rarely called upon for twitch, and their Mind Wrack line can help restore mana to their group on longer fights.
